Description

Nariaki Sugiura, who served on the piano faculty of educational institutions in Denver and China before

his position at UND, received his Master’s and Doctorate of Music in Piano Performance degrees from

the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.

Simona Barbu received a master of music degree from Southern Methodist University in Dallas and a

Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Memphis. She served as a faculty member at

Mississippi State University before coming to teach at UND.

For their third performing season, Duo Cantabile will feature a program entitled “World

Tour of Music Cuisines”. After the industrial revolution in Europe, music became more

accessible to the middle class people. This phenomenon made music spread across the

globe rapidly. Composers in the east and west incorporated various flavors of their native

traditional music into their own compositions. Duo Cantabile’s concert will present music

that will carry you to many destinations in Europe such as Spain, Romania, and Hungary;

to Japan and China in Asia; and on to Brazil, Argentina, the Caribbean, and United States in

the Americas. The concert will conclude with the world premiere of a composition written

by Christopher Gable.
